Gloucestershire Parish Records - Atkins
« on: Wednesday 08 May 13 05:34 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for an Edward Atkins born between 1807 and 1813 in Gloucestershire, father named Joseph.

Also an Edwin Atkins father Joseph born from 1810 and 1812 in Gloucestershire.  Arrested in Cubberly (Coberly?) and convicted in Gloucester.

Edwin was transported to NSW in 1830 for 7 years, whilst Edward turned up in South Australia in 1839 and we are trying to establish if they are one and the same person.  Sorry I don't have more detail as to location or years.

A list of any possible matches for either of the above born in the county would be a great help.

thank you
KJ

Hi KJ,
The Gloucestershire Family History Society (GFHS) Baptism Index only records baptisms in Gloucestershire 1813-1837, and neither Edward or Edwin are recorded.
A check of the GFHS Marriage Index 1800-1837 records a marriage of a Joseph ATKINS to Ann HAINES at Cirencester on 14th August 1809, by Banns. This could be Edward/Edwin's parents. Interestingly, Coberley is about halfway between Cirencester and Cheltenham.
Unfortunately I am taking a time-out from lookups at the Gloucestershire Archives (GA) for 2 weeks, but if you wish, on my return, I will check the Cirencester & Coberley Parish Records (PRs) at GA and get back to you.

That would be great Victor.  There is no hurry, we have been searching for our Edward for a few years now and another couple of weeks will make no difference.
Thanks
KJ

I have quite a bit of information as part of my own ancestry on Edward Atkins and Edwin Atkins.  Edward Atkins was transported to Australia although we believe him to be Henry Edwin Atkins given the rest of the information that we have.
