Thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it :)

Will look into it more, unfortunately not near Adelaide.
Borlands from Scotland, Hiltons from England & Platts from England at this stage. Have others to look for as well at some stage :)

An article on Trove in the Adelaide Chronicle, 14 May 1927.

"Mrs Green of Toronto St. Ovingham was 75 years of age on Sunday. She was born at Second St., Brompton....... Her parents came to Australia on the Ship Trafalgar, leaving England in December 1849 and reaching here in April 1850. Her (mothers) maiden name was Wild. She met her first husband Mr Platt on the boat and they were married at St.Andrews Church in December 1850. Mr Platt was the first turncock in the waterworks at Adelaide and the first fire engine in Adelaide was stationed at their home in Waymouth St........."

Looking at the passenger list for the Trafalgar, there are no Platts or Wilds among the 290 Government Assisted passengers. Which is a shame as they all have ages, occupations and birthplaces listed.

There are Platts listed among the paying passengers, with limited details:

"Passengers: Mr. Platts and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Gretton, Mr. and Mrs. Sismey, Mr Wyld Surgeon-Superintendent and Lady in cabin, and 290 Government emigrants."

The Surgeon Superintendent was the Ships Doctor.

Doesn't get you any closer to John William Platt, but it looks like he was reasonably well off.

Alan.

Hi RedWolf0502

I too have John William PLATT and Mary Anne WILD in my tree, they are the in-laws to my 2nd Great Uncle, William GREEN.

Two of William and Mary Ann's daughters married into my family.

Rachael PLATT married William GREEN and Rebecca PLATT married Samuel GREEN.

William and Samuel are the sons of my Great Great Grandfather, Daniel GREEN.

Yes it's been a while since I've posted....again......Funny how real life can get in the way of things.

Anyway have found a little bit more information on this side of the family.

According to Ancestry, which I used at the local library with help from the staff...thanks guys :)

I found John William's parents.

Father: George Platt

Mother: Rachel Greenhalgh

Married: 31/3/1823 at St. Marys, Bury, Lancashire, England.

So some progress after all this time :)

Also found a christening date for John William: 18/2/1829, Holcombe, Lancashire, England
