Ameys in the 1700s
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 22:28 BST (UK) »
Hi. I have found my Ameys back to Joseph Amey b.1782 Eastwood, Essex, but there the trail goes cold. I was wondering if his parents, or at least his father, moved in from somewhere else. Some of my other family tree branches end up in Essex, but are originally are from Kent. I think his father might be Samuel? I did read somewhere, a very long time ago, that the Ameys were possibly fleeing Hugenots but have also read that it came over with William the Conqueror.
Is there a website where I can search parish records online? I'm already on Ancestry.co.uk.
Thanks.

I'm just resurrecting this previous post of mine as I am still at a dead end.
I have a subscription to SEAX and ancestry. I have found Samuel's baptism to Joseph and Ann Amey (nee rice) in eastwood in 1812 (ann was Joseph's second wife, as he was previously married to Martha Wright nee hare). Joseph was baptised in 1782 to samuel and elizabeth amea in Eastwood.

I can't find samuel and Elizabeth's marriage or birth. Any help appreciated.

Also can't find Samuel Amey b1812 on the 1841 census. I have him on the 1851 census living with his son in St Pancras/marylebone. Also know he had children born to him and his wife mary Ann nee scales (married s benfleet 1833) from 1835 onwards in St Pancras Marylebone.

Thanks.

There is, in 1841, a Samuel Amey born c1815 and a soda water manufacturer living in Marylebone St Pancras area, with wife Mary son Joseph age 3 daughter Mary age 1. Both Samuel and Mary not born in county, but the children were. Also there is Samuel Amey aged 70 born 1771 a labourer also born out of the area.

Found the following in case you don't have it
Joseph Amey age 80 buried 03/10/1862 Victoria Park Cemetery
the name W White in next column maybe the undertaker then two numbers 7659 and 1525 nothing on top of column to say what they are, but could be possibly be plot numbers.

Hi. Thanks. I do have both of those. The Joseph agreed 35 is my 3x great grandfathers brother. It's their father in looking for on the 1841 census. He's a bit of an enigma. I have his baptism in 1782 Eastwood Essex but not his parents marriage or births. Thanks anyway.
