'Natural born son'
« on: Wednesday 31 July 13 19:41 BST (UK) »
Am I right in thinking that if in a will (mid 17th century), a father refers to his 'natural-born brother', and 'natural-born son', it is a euphemism that they're illegitimate?

He refers to other sons as just his sons, but there is one son and brother (only brother mentioned) referred to in this way.

That's generally what it means.   A more polite form of 'base born' etc

I have also seen other more down to earth descriptions in baptism records.........
