Thomas Davies born 1860 Aberporth
« on: Saturday 17 August 13 23:48 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to find information about my grandad, Thomas Davies born Aberporth 1860. I can't find him on any census or being registered born or married. He apparently became a merchant seaman and on his records which i have got it said he was born in Aberporth in that year. I know nothing about him apart from that. There were some family living in Blaenporth and the surrounding area but they have all died and the remaining family no nothing about him.
Any help will be much appreciated,
Tom

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Who did he marry and when?  Do you have a copy of his marriage cert?  Does it give his fathers name and occupation?  Were either of the witnesses surname Davies

1871 Census from Family Search

Ann Davies, head, F, 46, Nant Porth
Thomas Davies, son, M, 11, Nant Porth
David Morgan, nephew, M, 10, Nant Porth

They were living in Registration District Cardigan, Sub District Llandygwydd, Parish Aberporth

Could it be him?

Dave

If the previous was your Thomas Davies, there were 2 births registered in Cardigan district in the March quarter of 1860 both with the same reference - volume 11b, page 14.

There are 2 other registrations in the June quarter of 1871 but as the census date was 2 April the odds are that he is one of the former.   There is also a Thomas Jones Davies registered in the September quarter.
