Eli Slade and Esther Mercy Wetherall

I am searching for ancestors of Eli Slade (Born about 1864) and Esther Mercy Wetherall (about 1867). They married 1885-05-23 Wokingham, Berkshire.

Eli Slade's father is listed as Leonard William Slade. I previously found a marriage for Leonard William Slade and Mary Ann Powell but cannot find the source! I did find: Births Mar 1865
SLADE    Eli         Henley    3A    542 so may order this too.

Esther Mercy Wetherall's father is listed as Thomas Wetherall. I found a marriage for Thomas Wetherall and Martha Hatto  but am not 100% sure I have the correct parents.

There are multiple records that match the same page/reference but Thomas's surname is mispelt on one and Martha is listed twice so I assume that is the correct spouse.

There is another Eli Slade around of almost the same age. He is living in Islington, wife Mary, and he was born Berkshire.


In 1881 'your' Eli Slade is at RG 11 1488 66 23, a shepherd boy in Henley.

Mother is Ann M


There is another Esther on 1881, bn Woodley, slightly older, but her dad is a Francis

Is it possible she used her middle name as Martha?

I guess it is possible! I really wouldnt know. She might be Esmerelda but chose to use Ann M for all I know!

Free BMD has a marriage 1866 in Reading where Leonard Slade and Sarah Wiltshire are among the spouses.

The children's ages don't fit with this though.

Leonard and Sarah are here in 1861  882/ 6/  5
