Lizzie Herd...or Ayto....What Happened To Her ?
« on: Wednesday 28 August 13 20:25 BST (UK) »
Lizzie Herd was born in 1876 at Grantham....her mother was Elizabeth Herd...her father possibly John Ayto, I can find her on the 1881 & 1891 census, as Ayto, and then nothing...there is a possibility that she married someone called Draper in 1919 at Grantham, but the dates are suspect, any help on this appreciated.........Del.

Karenlee, Thank you for reply, that's the one I'm a little concerned about, it would have meant that she was 43 years old at time of the marriage, nothing wrong with that of course, it just makes me suspicious.........Del.

It would be more of a problem if she were to have gone on and had children for the next 15 years. :)

As it is, there seem to be none.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

I am now beginning to wonder wether Lizzie went abroad, that would account for her not being on either the 1901, or 1911 census......A Lizzie Herd went to Philadelphia, USA, in 1896.....the plot thickens.......Del.

According to the arrival register, Lizzie was a Scottish tailoress from Renfrew. She was travelling with a Barbara Scott and both were going to join Barbara's sister, Agnes Scott, in Philadelphia.

Unless her origin was assumed to be the same as Barbara's, because they were together, she is not the person from Grantham.

David

Further to my previous post, Lizzie is still in Philadelphia in 1910 and it gives her place of birth as Scotland, so unlikely to be the person from Grantham.
