Have you looked at the original 1798 baptism to see if there is any other useful information included?  It is unlikely but there is always a remote possibility especially if the father was a soldier.  Hythe library have films of the original registers http://www.kent.gov.uk/KCC.Libraries.Web.Sites.Public/LibraryDetails.aspx?aid=0&lid=35&uprn=000050018994

Also, is there any useful information on the original 1825 marriage ie. names of witnesses which could be helpful?

Hi Casalguidi,
I am unable to look at the original register as I am in Spain, I was hoping that someone would be able to do it for me.
One of the witnesses was married in the same place and the other, William Long was too difficult to place. No family  :(
Would you know of anyone who could do a lookup for me?
Kind regards     Carolyn

Hi,
That is brilliant. It shows that his Father may have been from Suffolk. Exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you so much.
What a great site this is and how wonderful that there are so many people willing to help.
Very kind regards to you all
