Hi All,
My greatgrandmother Emily Evans born abt 1864 had my grandfather James Lewis Evans born 1888, his father was James Evans. Emily then went on to marry William Harris in abt 1900. I am trying to locate her marriage to James Evans (if they did marry at all) and to find her on the 1901 cencus with William. I have her on the 1911 cencus with William and my uncle Cyril in Pontypridd but nothing before that. I would like to know if Evans was her maiden name or did she infact marry James Snr
Do anyone have any suggestions please on how to find them please?

They could have married in the Pontypridd District of Glamorgan in the Jan/Feb/Mar quarter of 1900.An Emily Evans and William Harris are among the four names given on this marriage entry;Volume 11a,Page 636.The marriage certificate will tell you whether Emily had been married previously and if so what her maiden name was.

Though the age is out compared with 1911,there is an interesting Evans family showing as living in Porth Glamorgan in 1891.
RG12/4412/122/26.
The entry shows a James and Mary Evans with a daughter Emily given as born in Pembroke in c 1871.Also showing as Grandchildren of James are two Grandchildren both given as born in Porth,Martha Evans born c 1887 and James Evans born c 1889.

That is the exact address that the Evans family I gave were living in 1891.
You must consider the possibility that Emily gave her father James's name as a "nominal" father for James Lewis Evans.

One thing that has been worrying me is that who did James Lewis Evans marry?

You must also consider the possibility of the Martha Evans from 1891 being a sister for James Lewis Evans. She could well be the Martha Mary Evans born in the Pontypridd District in 1887.She could also later have married a Henry Lester Evans in 1905.The Henry given as Henry L in the later Census. In looking for this Henry L and Martha Evans,Emily's brother Albert from 1891 could well be significant!
