Clonmel Castle
« on: Sunday 06 October 13 13:25 BST (UK) »

Please can anyone help.
I have been asked by a friend to search for a castle in Clonmel, it is now a ruin.
Here ancestors surname Perrins where associated with this castle.
She has been told this by a relative in Canada.
Any information regarding the history or the whereabouts of the castle  would be greatly appriecated.
Many thanks

When were these Perrins ancestors supposed to have been living in Clonmel?

A quick google brings up a list of Irish castles - not sure how complete the list is but you'd probably have to start checking into the history of each one in Clonmel area unless you can give us a firmer idea of names and dates for these Perrins.

Added- I can find early people named Perrin in the area but not Perrins.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

can you elicit any more information as to what period the Perrin-Perrins Family would have been associated with this Castle, in the Clonmel Area, Possibly the best known Castles in the Area, are Careys Catle, resided in by the Carey Family, up until around 1910, now a Ruin, and Kilmanahan Castle, also a ruin, Owned by the Green Family, and later leased out, until it was purchased by the Earl of Donoughmore, any small additional information would help, your answer me be discovered through a Marriage link, Ben

tomoc1, John Carey took up residence in Careys Castle county Waterford in 1740, he was originally from Careysville Castle, Fermoy, county Cork, the Carey's were cousins to the Green family whom resided in Kilmanahan Castle some 3 miles distant from Careys Castle, I believe Garret Richard Carey was the last of the family to live in the castle up to about 1890 when he moved to Keylong House on the outskirts of the town of Cahir, county Tipperary, Careys Castle was subsequently leased to the o'Mahony and Walsh families, it burned down around 1921 and has been in a ruinous state since, 3 brothers of the Carey family did leave around 1841 and traveled to N.S.W. Australia, departing Liverpool on the ship Columbine I believe, if you need further information you can contact me here or on the private link, hope this information is of some help, Ben999
