Don't you think the nuns would have arranged a Catholic baptism for the children born there? They won't be online, probably.

Yes, that is what I meant. The fact that I wouldn't be able to find the baptism online...

Why are you looking for a Catholic baptism - was the family Catholic? Sorry if I missed that.
It looks to me as though the convent and the home are two separate places.

Hi

"Well the BC arrived and thank you for your suggestions as I have found him!
The BC for Hugh W D Middleton was indeed him,  . . . . . "

As it is accepted as the correct certificate, would you confirm all of the detail from that certificate?
(or scan and post the pic?)

Thanks
Ray

Hi,

Woke up this morning with no internet access so I'm doing this on my phone!

Details are: Hugh William Dumbar (handwriting looks like it could say Durmbar) - there is no father listed born on 10th August 1912 at 99 Central Hill, Upper Norwood. Mother is Nellie Florence Middleton listed as a cook from 56 Anglesea Hill, Woolwich (also known as Anglesea Road) - this address has been confirmed by my Grandfather as the correct address. He remembers visiting his grandparents there as a young boy.  Nellie's current residence in column 7 is listed as 99 Central Hill. This also fits with family information about Nellie being sent away from home to have the baby.

Clayton was Nellie's stepfather's surname. Nellie's mother remarried after the death of Nellie's father in 1905..

William Hugh (Dunbar) Clayton only ever went by that name.

We don't think he even knew his name on his BC was Hugh William Dumbar Middleton..

The family remembers him joking about his 'posh' double barreled name, Dunbar Clayton, although he never officially used the Dunbar part...
