The Loe line

Looking at familysearch.org there is a Daniel Loe christened on 6 May 1855 in Selborne, Hampshire, England. In the same record it says his father is:

Francis Loe and Eliza

Is it just coincidence? It seems the Daniel Loe name is quite common

Hi Folks

Ive been following up some leads with regards to the Harker line and am seeking your advice about the likely candidates for George Harkers father. George was born Lymington, Hampshire, England, United Kingdom on 19 Dec 1798. On findmypast we have a Jervis Harker (most likely Jarvis Harker listed as the father). A Jarvis Harker married Mary Robinson in 1891

    First Name: GEORGE
    Last Name: HARKER
    Country: England
    Record set: Hampshire baptisms
    County: Hampshire
    Year: 1799
    Month: Jan
    First Parent: Jervis
    Second Parent: Mary
    Birth Year: 1799
    Parish: Lymington
    Place: LYMINGTON
    Notes: bn 19 Dec 1798
    Year: 1799
    Son or daughter: Son
    Day: 16
    Category: Life Events (BDMs)
    Record collection: Births & baptisms
    Collections from: United Kingdom

Looking on Findmypast for Jarvis Harker Im not sure if I am making the correct possible matchs. Can anyone help me narrow down  to see if this Jarvis Harkers may have been George Harkers (and his brothers and sisters) father. I haven't been able to find a death record for George Harker but one of his sons was born in Hackney. The Jarvis Harker I found was born in 1762 in Yorkshire.

Cleveland Baptisms Transcription

    First Name: JARVIS
    Last Name: HARKER
    Country: England
    Record set: Cleveland Baptisms
    County: Yorkshire
    Yorkshire (North Riding)

    Year: 1762
Mother's Given Name: Yorkshire (North Riding)
    Month: Harker
    Birth Year: 1762
    Place: RICHMOND
    Year: Jarvis
    Father Occupation: Richmond
    Day: 28
    Category: Life Events (BDMs)
    Record collection: Births & baptisms
    Collections from: United Kingdom

There is a death record for a Jarvis Harker born in 1862 - died 1836 but I am not sure if this is the same person as hes now in Bedfordshire.

    First Name: JARVIS
    Last Name: HARKER
    Burial Day: 15
    Burial Month: 2
    Burial Year: 1836
    Age: 74
    Place: BEDFORD
    County: Bedfordshire
    Country: England
    Church Denomination: ANGLICAN
    Church Description: ST MARY
Record set: National Burial Index for England & Wales
    Category: Life Events (BDMs)
    Record collection: Deaths & burials

Hi Cameron,

I think I am the source of information you quoted at the beginning. William Jarvis Harker was my wife's great grandfather. I am 99% sure of the lineage of WJH down the children of his first two marriages in England. My wife's father and grandfather talked to her about WJH - a bit sketchy by the time we started to have a look since they were long since in Australia - he stayed in NZ, but enough to provide anecdotal evidence which correlates well against some of the factual records that present themselves. I have various B, M, D certificates including his birth and death certificates. He was born on 6 May 1843.

I have various bits of information about his time in England and the circumstances of departing for NZ - he left his children behind - they were at an orphan's convent in Sussex at the time of the 1881 Census ( I have visited the old convent) and the children were later sent out to him, but not at his request apparently!

Elisabeth Rose Jones, his second wife, did die in childbirth to twins - one survived (my wife's grandfather) and the other sadly died.

I can give more information if you contact me - you tracked me down on Facebook - and I'm keen to get filled in on the NZ connection about which I know little! Cheers ..... Rob

Hi Rob

WJH was the father of Cyril Harker. Cyril adopted my grandfather and our family bears the Harker name.

I have 29 ages of Cyrils memoirs which were uncompleted because of his death where he mentions his father.

Ill message you off list.

Hi All,

I'm also researching William Jarvis Harker and would like to get in contact with anyone who knows more about his story.

I've done quite a bit of research on George Harker (WJH's father) who was a drysalter in London. His business is still operating under the name of Demos. A photo and some more information about of George Harker can be found at the following link:
http://www.demos-uk.com/history

I also have a copy of George and Ellen's will, but I'm having trouble deciphering what WJH was entitled to.

Regards,
msnoek
