Annie McDonald - Born c1863 - North Uist.
« on: Saturday 26 October 13 22:03 BST (UK) »
Hi

I would appreciate any assistance anyone can give in helping me further trace my relatives.

I have traced my great great Grandfather James Ross (bn c1862 in Alness) to

Claduch Kirkibost, N. Uist

In the 1881census.  He was living with his Brother Donald Ross and his family;

Wife Jessie
Daughter Jessie
Daughter Georgina.

Both James and Donald were Gamekeepers.

In the 1891 census James (29) has married Annie (born in N.Uist c1863) Their marriage certificate states that they married in Renfrew, Glasgow on 19/12/1886.  Annie's maiden name was McDonald and her parents are Roderick McDonald and Catherine ( Me McVicar).

I am looking for any information regarding their time in N. Uist and anything to help me go back in my tree.

Regards

PW

Hi PW,

An old post but there's a marriage on SP (OPR) 1840 - 1855 for a Roderick MacDonald & (surname) McVicar (I left out a forename). I left it as all areas as it didn't show up in Inverness-shire.

Although the family may have originated from N/Uist they may have moved for work reasons & possibly Catherine (McVicar) MacDonald went home to her parent's for the birth of Ann which is not uncommon?
