I think they just somehow got missed in 1861

If you are wanting more exact an address, then it might be on any of the children's birth certs, or the death certs of those that died. But it may just say "Thornton Heath" of course!

I'm a bit confused by your finding, Westmorland, of  "42 Thornton Heath" as Thornton Heath is a town/village/area, not a road (or so I thought!)

Can anyone else make out the address on the chr of Ann in 1857?  That gives more detail of the road in Thornton Hth but is so unclear

I can't find anyone at all in 'Thornton Heath' in 1861 but there is no mention of any problems with the census there.  :-\

Ignore that - have just found Thornton Heath as a street name not Village name as it should be  ::)

The census for Thornton Heath (the Road) is indexed under Croydon even though the parish is named as Thornton Heath on the census sheet, that is why I could not find it as a 'place' in 1861  ::)

I've just found that too. There's also a Thornton Row on same schedule.  Cant see any road that looks like the one on Ann's christening record though.

My guess is that they lived in that area, maybe slightly off the beaten track, and got missed. Either missed altogether, or when the enumerator wrote up the schedule.

But we have found lots of records for them around that era, so can follow what was happening in the family and approx where they were. And as I said, if anything more exact is very important, the various certificates for births and deaths around that time may add more, or they may too just give address at Thornton Heath!
