It's best to tell us exactly what you've already found so we don't duplicate the same searches and end up posting information you alreaddy have.

Have you checked 1901 and 1911 census?

Hi Kingskerswell
Many thanks......this is my Lawrence, I knew he was baptised at the long tower.
Is there any chance you could find Ellen Watt's baptism, as far as I know she was church of Ireland, and was also known as McLaughlin.....why this is I have know idea.
Thankyou.....argyle25cassidy :)

If Ellen was born in 1866 there should, in theory, be a birth certificate for her but often dates aren't accurate and quite a few early births didn't make it into the registration process. Have you tried looking on FamiltSearch for a possible birth (also some extracted Irish births 1864-c1881 which give parents' names)?
It's not that uncommon to find cjhildren/people known by more than one surname- perhaps mother remarried or Ellen was illegitimate, etc.
Not all Church of Ireland registers for that period survive (those sent to Dublin for safekeeping were destroyed in the 1920s). Any idea where she might have lived?

Where does the Watt come into it?  :)

She married as Ellen McLaughlin in 1883 and was a spinster.

Her father was Neil McLaughlin.  RootsIreland has a potential baptism but it's a bit early  (1861)

Hi,
Ellen McLaughlin was baptised in Long Tower R.C. Church in 1861. The father was Neil McLaughlin and the mother was Lydia WATT.

The latest post confirms that there won't be a birth certificate for Ellen either and also that she was (at least baptised) Catholic.

Hi
Many thanks for the replys.
From what I can gather Ellen was a complex woman.....my mother remembered her.
Family legend says that she was married before....but as a protestant at st columbs cathedral.
I have also been told she "turned"  to become a catholic when she married Lawrence Nash....as far as I know her mother Lydia Watt came from Macosquin....nr Colraine(protestant family)......I have also been told Lawrence Nash was married twice before he married Ellen....in 1879 and 1881 I think. If anyone can shed any light on this that would be great.
Many thanks
Kind regards argyle25cassidy :)
