Margaret Epps marrying James Fraser Ralston
« on: Monday 16 December 13 21:37 GMT (UK) »
The above couple were married in Hendon, Middlesex in September 1945.
I was wondering if someone can look up and find out the parents of Margaret for me please.
As I have been tracing the Ralston family back to about 1800 in Scotland, but I'm struggling
to get anything on the Epps side.

Hi Wilton

I'm sorry but marriages after 1921 aren't online.

To get further information, you'll need to purhcase a copy of the certificate from the GRO with this reference (www.gro.gov.uk)

Sep 1945
Epps, Margaret A, spouse Ralston, Hendon 3a 2425
Ralston, James F, spouse Epps, Hendon 3a 2425

By the way, when and where did they die or are they still alive?

There aren't many Margaret A Epps in the birth index (assuming she wasn't widowed or divorced when she married in 1945)

This could be her birth

Dec 1925
Epps, Margaret A, mmn Bundock, Canterbury 2a 1478

Thanks Dawn,

It looks like I may have to send for the birth certificate for Margaret Epps as that would tell me who her parents were.
I can confirm that both James and Margaret are now dead although I won't be able to get the certificates online.
I managed to get six generations of the Ralston family back to around 1808 in that request you were referring to.

Hi Wilton

I know it seems like extra expense but as you don't know anything about her, the only event you are sure about is the marriage, go for the marriage cert first which will confirm who her father was.

Once you have that, you can look for a marriage for her father to work out who her mother was.

The birth I found may not be correct and you could end up following another family.

Hello Dawn,

yes I will send for the marriage certificate. I know that she came back up to Scotland to live.
Her mother had a sweet shop in Canterbury. He worked as a draftsman working on the merchant ships that came into Canterbury. James was working in the Middle East and came back from there to Canterbury where he met Margaret and they fell in love.

I've ordered the Marriage Certificate. It won't arrive till after 13th January 2014.
Margaret's full name was Margaret Alice Epps and she died, age 83, in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. She was born about 1926. Will update once I get more info.

Hi Wilton

Did you order using the GRO reference given earlier? The GRO only takes 5 working days to process 'with reference' orders.
