Hi Mike

So we are hoping that Henry's marriage cert shows his father as James occ millwright.  If it does, then that will confirm that the 1816 baptism and parents are the right ones albeit not the James & Sophia in 1841/51

If the death in 1822 is the right James - that puts his birthyear around 1787

Sophia may have re-married (she may possibly be the 1824 marriage to Edward Eppleford) after James died as she would have been relatively young

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N21Q-5MJ

There is no Sophia Hardy in Suffolk in 1841

Sophia Eppleford died 1881 aged 83 so birthyear 1799 (ish) - a bit too young perhaps

Norfolk Marriage Index has

Sophia HARDY and Arthur CARMAN  married 23 Aug 1830 St. Clement's Norwich
this would put her in the same parish as her daughters

Hi Yokel,

That info you have found on Henry is fantastic!! I see he is mentioned twice in the list (1854 and 1856) I am not sure what this list represents.  I notice (1851) listed as a Foreman Miller (1861) Miller-Baker, both Northwold, (1871) Miller, this time - Docking. Nothing so far for 1841 that fits in with his birth 1816.

Mike. :)

Hi Mike

Susan and Henry are in Mundford in1841

HO/107/774/10 folio 11 pg 16

Henry Hardy 20 Miller Not born in County
Susan          20         Born in County
Henry          Infant     Born in County

don't forget that ages on the 1841 census were rounded down , so any one aged 20-25 were recorded as 20.

just realized that the marriage date of 20 Sept 1840 is actually the date the Banns were last read, FreeBMD does give the marriage ref of Dec 1840 though so they were probable married in October

Thanks Yokel for this info!! I would have thought any value in his estate would have been split many ways down the ages!!  Only got back today so not had chance to assess the info you have so kindly provided.  Henry's marriage cert is no due until mid Jan.  I take it is not available on-line to view otherwise GRO would be out of business!!

Happy new year,

Mike.

Hi Mike

Happy New Year

I have a theory 8)

Henry Hardy bap 28 June 1816 at Beccles s/o James Hardy and Sophia Mack

James Hardy married Sophia Mack at Yaxham 2 Feb 1810

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0xe2/

James Hardy bur at Beccles 27 June 1822 aged 33 (therefore born c1789)
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
James Hardy bap 31 May 1789 Saham Toney s/o Isaac  Hardy and Anne Everitt

Ann Hardy wife of Isaac late Everitt buried at Saham Toney 21 July 1801 aged 59

Isaac Hardy (widower) married Elizabeth Watson (widow) at Saham Toney 10 Aug 1809

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0xe3/

(Now this is where my theory could come unstuck) :-\
Do you think the signature of Isaac Hardy on his marriage to Elizabeth Watson matches the signature of Isaac Hardy the witness to James Hardy and Sophia Macks marriage
