The 1861 census for 8 Drygate Lane, Glasgow has Humphrey Greer aged 25 years, a general labourer, born Ireland. His wife is Mary Greer, aged 21 years, born Ireland. Their only child is Thomas aged 1 year born Glasgow. There is also a visitor by the name of Anthony McCrann (but this may well be McCann), he is aged 45 years, a weaver, born Ireland.
Drygate Lane would have been around Duke Street prison somewhere, in the area of High Street, Duke Street and The Drygate. Very "inner-city".
Luck is on your side Sandra, there is an entry for the same family in the 1851 census for Glasgow and, it takes you back another generation.
The address is 74 Drygate Street. (I think this is now known as The Drygate).
