I am looking for information about Jeremiah McGrath of Waterford who migrated to Australia around 1860. Jeremiah McGrath was the only child (born 1840) of (possibly) Lawrence, and his mother's name before her marriage had been Margaret Lamb (Jeremiah's parents). They were farmers who lived in Waterford, Ireland and died when Jeremiah was very young, probably about three years old. An aunt and uncle, who like his parents were farming people, brought him up. As a young man he came to Australia (about 1860) and earned a living working for a farmer in Victoria for a short time.
Beyond this we have no information about Jeremiah other than of his time in Australia.
Can anyone add to the story?
Greg McGrath (Great Grandson)

I am interested in the McGraths of Waterford. My 3rd great-grandfather was Edward McGrath born about 1825. In the 1861-1891 census for England he states his birthplace as Waterford. I know in 1845 he had moved to Bristol, England as have this is when he married Mary Anne King, but I don't know exactly when the move was made. I believe that his father was called William who I have to assume stayed in Ireland or died before 1841 as am unable to find him in any census of England.
