Going through Burley I noticed that all the streets are named Harold . Does anyone know who this Harold was please ?                                                                      regards Sue

It's not just Harold. There are also lots of Walmsleys, Hessles, Autumns, Thornvilles ... in fact nearly all the streets have several versions of the same name - Mount, Tce, Ave, St, Road, Grove ....  :o
Looks very confusing. Poor Postie.  :)

Oh dear - just interested to have a look and see that Google maps has changed.  :P Everything is now in the wrong position - oh, confusion! ::)

It is curious Ruskie ,as you said street, drive ,close etc all the same. All I could think of was King Harold but then thought it would be someone more local.

Maybe a Mr. Harold?
There are 1012 people with surname Harold on the 1901 census.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thankyou  kgarrad but I think it could be older, not positive though. I have a friend who grew up there nearly ninety years ago , who is very knowlegable about Leeds history. However, that's one thing she doesn't know.

FindMyPast address search shows the following in 1901:

Harold Avenue
Harold Grove
Harold Mount
Harold Place
Harold Road
Harold Street
Harold Terrace
Harold Walk

In 1891 there was also Harold View.

1881 shows only:
Harold Grove
Harold Place
Harold Terrace

Nothing in 1871.

So we can now see when they were built!
Harold View is intriguing? Is there a geographical/geological Harold nearby?

Thanks so much for Ruskie that's a great help.  The only geographical landmark that stands out in that area is a mosque!

"Harold" might be the Christian name of a local mill owner who built the terraced housing for his mill labourers,  or more likely the name of one of his children.
