Newmillerdam Deaths
« on: Sunday 02 March 14 19:00 GMT (UK) »
My fourth great grandfather, George Gawthorpe  died in Newmillerdam in 1872. He was 104 years old and Robert Prowde was the curate. At the top of the burial register it says Sandal Magna, St Helens. I also have his death certificate and it says, Newmillerdam, Sandal also.

I can't get a handle on the churches in the area and I've been using maps and other sources but without any success. I even found one church that had a master plan of the graves and there was a G Gawthorpe, no date given, at 4C, plot 9 but from the blurry image I saw that didn't appear to be correct. I'm not sure if there are two churches with similar names too - Sandal, St Helens.

Where do you think he would be buried?

Thank you in excited anticipation

I was determined to sort this out and found that there's only one church and it's less than 2 miles away. He's not where he is as stated but Section 4C, plot 24.
