83rd/88th foot

Thank you I sort of understand that now, he was getting a pension but this was an enhancement due to his age , is my thinking correct.

Is there a list of members of the 83rd foot?? enlistment records?? My John Calvert arrived into Fremantle W A Dec 22 1866  onboard the Corona as a pensioner ....I have no further details except those on marriage and death certs which does not give place of birth or parents names. only an age making his birth 1828 ..making it hard to trace his family line. A date of enlistment would also allow me to trace his activities
