Hi Carol
I am interested to see your reference to Rodger Stonehouse and Mary Hutchinson. I have found 5 children from this marriage:
Elizabeth, bapt. 1705
Ann, bapt. 1706
John bapt. 1707
Roger bapt, 1710
Thomas bapt. 1713
You will notice some discrepancy between your dates and mine. This is because the IGI, I suspect, does not compensate for the old dating system where the year number changed on 25 March (until 1751).
I suspected that Rodger Stonehouse, married 1704, was son of Rodger b.1684 but had not been able to confirm this, so thank you.
I am descended from John bapt 1707, who married Elizabeth Campion, 26/11/1728. They had 4 children, John bapt. 1731; Roger, bapt. 1731; a second Roger, bapt 1736 and Nathaniel, bapt. 1738. Nathaniel married Harriet Coley from Lythe in 1765. He was a fisherman at Staithes. They had 5 children, John, bapt. 1765; Roger, bapt. 1766; Hannah bapt. 1770; Elizabeth bapt. 1772 and Esther, bapt. 1775. Esther married Thomas Mitchel, Farndale, blacksmith at Kirkbymoorside in 1798. Her grand-daughter was my great-great grandmother.
On the Stonas point, the surname seems to have standardised by around 1700-1750, but was a common variant before that.
Hope this helps.
Gareth
