Would Like More Info. on a fellow please
« on: Monday 27 June 05 01:43 BST (UK) »
Hi there,

I have this guy living with a family I'm checking into, but not sure who he is, this is from the 1911 Cork, Ireland census.

Can someone advise if he was on US census, or what military records are available.

Edward Long, boarder, Church of Ireland, read and write, aged 77, pensioner "American Navy", single, born in Cork City.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen

I checked some shipping lists - but I'm going to need a bit more info....if possible :P
There's a few Edward Long's born around that time - that came to America -
a couple as young as 10years old - but I can't find him on any census -
( could be my eyes too of course  :P :P :P :P )

The older manifests were very sparse of information - usually just name -place of birth - 9 times out of 10 - just the country ....
so though we might find an Edward Long - who knows if it's really yours unless we have some dates to back it up ....... ::)

American Navy?? I personally have no idea - depending on the years again -  it would be really hit and miss

Do you know how long he was back in Ireland before 1911 census?? - he could have gone as a child and come back a young man !

Could have been he left because of the famine ...... any number of things ..!!

I'd love to be able to help you - and I will keep on looking ! -  but extra information would help tremendously  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Regards

Annie

Hi Annie,

That's the only information I have on this fellow.  It's the first I have come across his name.

In 1911 he is living with a family named Howard.  Emma Howard and her husband is supposed to be FW Howard, however he (FW Howard) wasn't listed and she dosn't say she's a widow.  There is also a daughter Winifred Howard who is about 9 years old.

I have ordered the 1901 census through my local LDS library, so I will see if he is on the 1901 census in Ireland.

I'm not sure what else at this point I would be able to do? :-\

Thanks again,
Karen
