I wonder if Mary Ann died giving birth to Emrys?  I have had the same thoughts regarding John James, I wonder why he was not listed with John and Margaret in 1881?

Yes, seems odd that John isn't with the other children in 1881, either with Margaret and John in Gelligaer, or with Mary Ann's parents in Trelyn.  I have found one possibility, very speculative, but would tie in with him being Margaret's child before her marriage to John - John Jones aged 1, Foster Child at Blaegwenol, Clawddmadog, Llanwrtyd, household of John Edwards, 24, Ag Lab b Breconshire and wife Cathrine Edwards, 34, b Cardiganshire.
