Windows Photo Gallery file opening on startup
« on: Wednesday 16 July 14 00:14 BST (UK) »
I've tried Googling this problem but the results are either full of tech speak or are out of date so thought I'd ask the trusty Rootschatters.  :)

When starting up the (Windows 7) computer it boots up okay but when I tried to open the browser there was a long pause then a video file opened up. I took a note of the file name, did a search on it and found it in G\PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM along with another video.

I checked MSConfig to see if it was in the startup programs but it wasn't.

I then deleted the culprit and moved the other file to a different drive folder and rebooted. The computer was still looking for it when I opened the browser. I then ran MalwareBytes, quarantined some rubbish and rebooted again. It's still looking for the file!

Any ideas please?  ???

Hi

Do a full antivirus scan and keep scanning until you get a clear scan.

Drive G is what type of drive? Did you scan that drive too?

What browser is it?
One thing to also check is the "home page" (ControlPanel/InternetOptions/)
(Firefox is in Options)

Sounds more like a browser issue than a Windows one.

If all else fails you could download an alternative browser.

Thanks for replies.

I had performed a full scan and got a clear result. The browser is Firefox, I've checked for any addons and there are none. The G drive is showing as a removable drive that's empty.

The problem didn't occur when booting up this time so I'm hoping it was just delayed reaction last night!  :)
