It's not unknown for Catholic marriages to evade the clutches of the GRO.  :-\
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Is anything known of Loretta's pre-marriage life? I can't see a marriage for her and you say it was her first marriage but just thinking she would be mid- thirties when her first child was born.

The family were back in Sunderland in 1911.
Father had died by then, as mother was a widow.

Loretta was a nurse maid.
Ancestry has her as "Loutts"?! ::)

I am aware of that information. I meant her twenties/ thirties  - pre- children.

I have some info, but not a lot.  I am from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada.  This is the info I got from my father (Edward Garvey’s son – Cecil) Unfortunately, they did not know much about their Dad’s family and my Dad has now passed away.

Loretta lived in Sunderland as did all of the family. Loretta also lived near Richmond in Yorkshire England with her sister Mary. My father (Son of Cecil) also remembers his dad (Cecil) writing to Loretto and Mary in Belfast, Ireland.
•   Loretto has 2 daughters Kathleen Hammond and Nora Taylor

Loretto’s family:
•   Grandfather: Andrew Garvey Sr., Boyle,  Roscommon – Wife Elizabeth
•   Father: Edward Garvey Sr. (son of Andrew and Elizabeth) born 18-4-1849
o   Loretto’s father was Edward Garvey, Sunderland UK - His wife – Jane Ann Eleanor Binks passed away in Hunton, Leyburn – Married 1878

Children (Loretto’s brothers/Sisters)
•   William – Moved to Wapella, SK Canada in early 1900s
•   Nora in Yorkshire
•   Loretto
•   Eleanor
•   Cecil – Born May 6, 1895 - – Moved to Wapella, SK Canada in early 1900s
•   John Andrew - – Moved to Wapella, SK Canada in early 1900s
•   Edward – stayed in Sunderland
•   Jane
•   Alban– Moved to Wapella, SK Canada in early 1900s -  (Christening - St Marys, Sunderland, Durham, England)

Hope any of this helps

Hi

Just a thought.

Could this have been a forces marriage which would be indexed separately.

I sometimes wonder about the index though as there seem to be clumps of missing marriages.  I  have a missing marriage probably not far away from yopurs asnd at a similar date.

Good luck!

To 'emmsthheight' - interesting idea about military marriages - given the timeframe, it's worth looking into.  I wasn't aware that such marriages might appear in a separate index, and i didn't manage to Google.  I would appreciate info on where i can find indexes of military marriages.

Military marriages can be found at FindMyPast but I checked and there's no obvious entry.

When things are missing from the GRO indexes you should contact the local registration office that holds the registers and ask them to search for you.

As George's first wife died in Leyburn district and the first child was also registered there, contact North Yorkshire and give them all the information you have with regards to religion, addresses of births and deaths and see if they can find an entry

http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/article/23707/Copy-certificates

It is known that entries don't make their way into the indexes. For marriages this is usually down to the parish priest not returning the entries in the required time frame.
