MARRIAGE - JAMES ELLIOTT AND MARGARET WILKS ** COMPLETED**

Hello,

Im looking for a marriage certificate or something to indicate when and where James Elliott and Margaret Wilks got married.

Based on Census record iv found I believe give or take James was born in 1848 and Margaret 1848 as well, first child Margaret born 1874.


also wondering if its common for Census records to seem like from year to year that its exactly the same family but the year of birth to differ by about 2 years?

Ages on census returns are simply what were told to the enumerator!
So, yes! It's fairly common to be a year or two out.
Sometimes more!!

under what country did you look? im trying to find it myself and educate myself on searching but I cant figure out what country you used to find the record?

Phew I thought I lost my marbles thinking iv messed up somewhere cos these birth years on Census arnt matching up, so thanks heaps for that iv spent all arvo trying to figure where I went wrong!!

Did you mean county or country? Very different entities!

I didn't use any county - or rather I searched All Counties!

Just:
Surname: Elliott
First Name(s): James
Spouse Surname: Wilks
Spouse First Name(s): Margaret
Date range: Mar (qtr) 1861 to Dec (qtr) 1870

Correct! It's actually illegal in England & Wales?!

If you knew if they married in a church, and knew which church, the Parish Register entry holds much the same information.

But Neath Registration District contains 30 parishes!

hmmmmm i don't think im tooooo keen to be looking through 30 parishes and it not to be there. maybe in a few years i might :p

The certificate from GRO is only £9.25 - including postage?!

DAHHHH didn't even think of that!!!  and will that give me a little more info on their parents?
