Aberffraw marriage
« on: Saturday 02 August 14 17:38 BST (UK) »
Recently found my G.G.G.G.Grandparents Robert Roberts (1776 - 1840) and Elizabeth ?? (1777 - 1856). They both died at Ty Glanymor, Aberffraw. The only census information found to date being 1851 where Elizabeth aged 74 is shown as born Aberffraw, living with her was unmarried daughter Mary Roberts aged 50 also shown as born Aberffraw approx 1801. The only other known children being my G.G.G.Grandfather Richard Roberts born 1805 Aberffraw and Ellen Roberts born approx 1806 Aberffraw.
My quest is to find Robert and Elizabeth's marriage (which I assume took place in Aberffraw around 1800) so as to find out who Elizabeth is and possibly to establish the birth place of Robert.
Maybe someone has access to such records.

Having established Elizabeth's maiden name as Lewis have now been able to find her in 1841 (one year after the death of her husband Robert) still living at Ty Glanymor, Aberffraw. She is recorded as Elizabeth Lewis, ie reverted back to her maiden name. Was this practice normal ??
The bonus being that also with her was Daughter Mary and two other females Margaret and Martha - presumably daughters.

The baptisms you enclose of Martha Roberts 1823, William Roberts 1813 and Robert Roberts 1815 are almost certainly of the same family for the following reasons,
The 1841 census I found following your initial response showing mother to be an Elizabeth Lewis at the family home of Ty Glanymor (reverted to her maiden name ) also had living with her a Martha Lewis aged 15, suggesting born 1826. Given the age rounding process common in 1841 she must be the same person. There was a second female called Margaret Lewis aged 20 at the same address who I can now find marrying in Aberffraw later in 1841 as Margaret Roberts (daughter of Robert).
Finally the son Robert Roberts you list as baptised 1815 is almost certainly the same Robert as married a Mary Davies in Aberffraw 1842 (because his father is also listed as Robert)
You have guided me to several new family members, my sincere thanks.

A bit late I know.....but in answer to your question about widows in Anglesey reverting to their maiden names; it was not normal practice to do it but then it was not uncommon either. There are one or two in my Anglesey roots who have done it.
