1841 census look up Charles Gray Rix
« on: Saturday 16 August 14 10:29 BST (UK) »
Good morning
Can anyone find the above gentleman on the 1841 census?
In 1851 he is in Cross st St Kings Lynn
Charles Gray Rix was born in Lynn in 1801 and his first wife Harriet died in 1837.
In 1841 he should be a widower with children Mary age 10 and Sarah age 5
Possibly on St Ann St Lynn (last there in 1836 on Sarah's baptism).
In 1842 he changes from a baker to a clerk with the Post Office but no mention of his precise address in PO records.
Can anyone track him down?

Have you ruled out the Chas Rix 1806 in St. Ann St, St. Margaret, Kings Lynn? There is a Sarah of the right age, but no Mary and he would appear to be living with an Elizabeth.

on the 1851 Charles and Ellen have a 6 year old daughter Mary G, which would suggest that the first Mary had died

Presumably you have seen his name on the 1835 Poll list when he was living in St Ann's St.

The 1851 baptism still lists him as a baker (although the 1854 one doesn't).

The Chas Rix, baker, b1806 in St Ann St seems too much of a coincidence not to be the right man. Ancestry has him indexed under Bix.

Ellen is a servant in the vicar's house.

Harriot, wife of Charles Rix, baker of Lynn, has a short obituary in the 9 Sep 1837 Norfolk Chronicle, which refers to her long illness, although I can't read the entire entry without paying FindMyPast.

Richard

Added: I think it just goes on to say that, despite her long illness, she 'manifested herself as happy with the prospect of eternal glory, contemplated death'

Good Morning
Thank you all for that.I am om Ancestry so that explains why he didn't come up.He's obviously the one in St Anns St .
Who Elizabeth Rix 35 is I don't know. The obvious is that she is a new wife but there isn't a marriage that seems to fit.She isn't a sister either -weird.
But thanks everyone for that and the obituary.

Hi, not sure if you have this, it is his marriage to Ellen, January24th 1844, it shows
him listed as a baker still. They seem to have failed to register the marriage until
April. Try http:// www.rootschat.com/links/019jg/  is the address South St St James
      Place??  Dave.
