I have acquired to my custody a portrait of a Fraserburgh Parish Minister (1861-87).

The rear of the canvas appears to have what looks like “A Webster” on the rear.

While I was aware that the Webster’s did landscape painting, is there any record of them as portrait painters?

Hi, yes Alexander WEBSTER Snr did indeed paint portraits.  According to my father (his grandson) he was in great demand to paint portraits of the local skippers.  I myself have a small portrait he did of my aunt who was his grand daughter.

Excellent. I’ve always wanted a Webster. :-D

It’s a large portrait of Rev McLaren - probably the most powerful clergyman the town ever had.
