Burials Parish of Magheralin
« on: Thursday 25 September 14 17:01 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I have a list of twenty one burials  at the Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity Church yard.
Parish of Magheralin. Dating from 1794- 1805 in the name of Swenerton.

They are all of interest to me but one of them in particular stands out.
BELLEW SWENERTON buried 10th May 1812 of  Clankillvoriff.

I know that Clankillvoriff is one of the ancient Irish townlands which came under Kilmore.
Does anyone know if these records are on line?
Also what the name BELLEW represents?

Thanks
bswinno.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies.

It was a long shot and I did not expect much from my posting.
I will need to look again as to where I go now.
Bob and rathmore.
Yes people have been looking for a long time now for this Bellew Swenerton, and other
Swenertons.
The postings on Rootsweb and the freepages site are known to me.
But thanks for bothering to bring them to my attention.

Many thanks,
bswinno.

Have you considered that, just as many other 'surnames', have been used over the years as 'forenames', this too is such an instance?

Bellew is a known surname. If you go to http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and enter it, you will see the distribution of it (and variants), in Ireland in mid 1800s, including its appearance in the Armagh area. Also, it can be found early 1800s in Armagh too - see freeholders Lists at PRONI.

I also note there was a Robert Bellew in Magheralin Parish at time of Griffiths:

Yes I had found that the Bellew name was a surname, and used in Ireland.
I suspect it may have come from a surname of a mother or grandmother.
I cannot of course prove this.
the only reference I have is the burial record. No baptism has yet been found.

Thanks

Yes we find lots of different ways the name was written.
Swinerton or Swinnerton  is believed to be the origin of the Northern Ireland
family.
Further to my posting about Bellew Swenarton. I now find in a large bunch of hand
written papers from the seventies the following.
Bellew Swenerton was bap 21 Dec 1746  ( don't know where) father possibly Joseph and mother a Bellew.  This is under the heading Walter Lord Bellew Kingdom of Ireland.
Does this make  sense to anyone?
