Blackhill Cemetery, Durham MIs
« on: Thursday 09 October 14 15:07 BST (UK) »
Hi

This is my first post on Rootschat - although I have been researching my family history for over 7 years now.

I'm researching my HENDERSON ancestors who lived in Consett, Durham and I am trying to locate a possible list of memorial inscriptions for Blackhill Cemetery in Durham?

Any advice would be most welcomed.

Thank you.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I have contacted one of our Rootschatters who has recorded many of the Blackhill memorial inscriptions, so hopefully he will be along in due course  :)

Hi, Lady of Shallott,

As I said last week, I have contacted the person who has done the memorial inscriptions for Blackhill and I am hopeful that he will reply when he has time  :)

You probably already know this, but I'll mention it anyway  :)

Durham Records Online has Blackhill burial records 1862 - 1920. The free index gives you the year of birth (as deduced from reported age at death) + the address at which they were living when they died.

Thanks for the website info, JenB.  I searched the website but it only showed the cemetery register transcription - which I already have.  It's the memorial inscription which I am looking for.  It looks like a useful website that I can make good use of in the future.  :)

LadyofShallott

I haven't been on the net much lately, until prodded into action by JenB.

There are quite a few Hendersons buried in Blackhill cemetery in the first 100 years and you haven't said which ones you are looking for. I've attached a PDF of all the burial records for your perusal.

Also attached is a PDF of the Henderson headstone inscriptions I have currently transcribed. The first one shown is from the South cemetery and the others are from the North cemetery. I've included the Brodie and Harrison/Walton inscriptions as the use of a surname as a Christian name is sometimes indicative of a familial relationship.
