Felton Help
« on: Thursday 16 October 14 19:32 BST (UK) »
Hello!

I was wondering if anyone could please help me? I'm looking to 2 ancestors but i cant seem to find anything other them what is listed below...

George Felton, born in 1847 in Pebmarsh, Essex to James Felton (1826 - 1909) and (i believe) Hannah Joscelyn. In 1851 he is listed as living with grandmother Harriet Felton (James's mother) in Gestingthorpe then in 1861 working as an Agricultural Labourer living with James and step-mother Mary Ann in Little Mapletsead.

John Felton born in 1857 in Gestingthorpe, Essex to James Felton and Mary Ann Slaughter (1832 - 1863) in 1861 living with James and Mary Ann in Little Maplestead and in 1871 again in Little Maplestead with James's mother Henrietta.

After this both George and John disappear?

Anyone able to help?

Thank you in advance :) x

I think you have joscelyn surname correct for hannah. They were married 25 dec 1846 in pebmarsh. He was from gestingthorpe, she was from pebmarsh. His father Elijah. Hers was John. Witness mary joscelyn.

I found a george Felton but it consistently says he was born in belchamp walter. If you google it, you can decide what you think. Dates fit and BW is quite near gestingthorpe. Also he has a mary Felton as a visitor in 1881. Her birthdate was 1820. Might not be his stepmother though.

1871 lived in Belchamp Walter (BW) with wife Sarah. Think she's sarah chinery/chenery b.1847 BW to thomas and Charlotte. Think they married about 1870.
1881 lives in great warley with sarah and sins thomas born BW in 1873 and harry born BW 1877.
1891 still in great warley
1901 great warley
1911 can't give you the data due to copyright rules for 1911 census but he wouldn't be hard to find based on what I gave you and I would look for another child!

Don't know if this is the right george but seems likely and I can't find another. Haven't found james yet. Didn't find a death for geroge yet.

The George Felton, born Belchamp Walter, can be found in 1861 at RG09  1127  40  5 (parents William and Mary Ann).
In 1861 George Felton, (transcribed as Fitton on FindMyPast), born Pebmarsh is at RG09  1111  92 10.

There's a George Felton, age 23, born Bulmer, Essex on the 1871 Census at RG10  1714  77  9 + wife Jemima. Now need to spot a possible entry for this George in 1861.

Can't find a George Felton, born Bulmer, in the 1851 Census.

George Felton, son of James and Hannah, has "Pebmarsh" as PoB in 1861 and "Gestingthorpe" as PoB in 1851. Gestingthorpe is pretty close to Bulmer.

Confirmation might (no guarantee) might lie with the marriage cert of George Felton and Jemima Hawkins, Sudbury, Dec Qtr 1869, 4a 821

"Confirmation might (no guarantee) might lie with the marriage cert of George Felton and Jemima Hawkins, Sudbury, Dec Qtr 1869, 4a 821 "

This George Felton married Jemima Hawkins at Bulmer on 11/12/1869

George's father was Timothy on the marriage records . Sorry, but another idea hits the dust! Parents actually Timothy Felton and Maria (nee) Turp

The north Essex Feltons are families I have been researching but I have no trace of George or John the sons of James after the dates given either. I believe James the father may have actually married four times
