Looby's in Dungarvan
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to research my Irish roots, from my maternal grandfathers side.  I have very little to go on apart from my great grandfather was called Edmund Looby and born in Dungarvan about 1895 and died in 1972 in Dungarvan.  I think he may have married a woman with the surname of Driscoll or O'Driscoll.  His children that I know of are called Martin (my grandfather), Catherine, John or possibly Jack, Phylis and Maureen who I think became a nun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If possible I'd like to obtain a copy of his marriage certificate.
Shaw, Dyson, McGarrigle, Jackson, Lewis, Jones, Lord, Broadhurst.

Ireland: Looby

Do you know when Martin was born
Do you know if all his siblings are deceased as we are not allowed discuss living people on here RootsChat policy.
I may possibly have found a marriage based  on a mothers maiden name given for one of Martin's siblings but its not O/Driscoll
What makes you think it might be O/Driscoll.

Mmmm
May not be the right people but there is a William Looby and a Mary Driscoll on the same page of marriages in Clonmel In 1885. (Maggie born about 1886)
Could Edmond's mother and wife's names be confused.
Can't find a Margaret Looby born Clonmel 1886 but there is one in 1887.
Needs a lot more looking into.
