I have logged a post on the Lanarkshire board with above title, but I need some specialist help in the Youghal, Co. Cork area.

From the post on the Lanarkshire board,

""Mother in law Mary Conroy, passed away in 2003, it is believed her date of birth was 12th September 1928 in Youghal, Co. Cork. She had difficulty getting a copy of her birth certificate, when she attended registrar in Youghal, about 25 years ago. Maybe registered on wrong date or something. Still trying to get a family member to have a look at it.""

Any idea of her mother's maiden name?

Hi Aghadowey,

I think her mothers maiden surname was McDonnell, but I have certificates that show O'Donnell and McDonald.

McDonald, McDonnell and O'Donnell are all variets of the same name and it's not uncommon for Irish records to use them interchangeably.

From memory, the civil registration index itself for that period lists mother's maiden name in index but the LDS online version only lists mother's maiden name from 3rd quarter (July) 1928.

Hi Aghadowey,

Thanks for your help so far, I have now been given a form that my mother in law signed in 1981 in front of a Justice or the Peace, in East Kilbride. This must have been after her visit to Ireland to get her birth certificate, apparently her name in Register was Mary Savage. She swore that her father had been known as Michael or John Savage between the years 1914 and 1950. Of course, her father was deceased by this time, so no way of finding out why.
