Have you checked RootsChat's very own Surnames Interest Table?

Scroll down to the bottom of any RC page and, in the dark section, underneath "Your Tools" you will find "Surname Interests".

Click on that; and then Quick Search; then select the initial letter ("C" in your case).

Then scroll down the list of surnames until you find Challis - don't forget variants.

Finally, why not add your own interests?

Hi, I am researching the Challis/Chalice family tree in Lympstone. My 3 times great grandfather and 3 times great grandmother (named Lane) came from Lympstone but by 1819 lived in Hoxton, Middlesex.

Hi

My ggd was John Denning Challis b 1854 in Lympstone he moved to Ireland , not sure why, and married Josephine Farrell and had 5 children one of which was Sarah my Grandmother she married in Ireland and then settled in England.

On the Challis side I have his father as John Denning Challis marrying a Sarah and his parents as Richard Challis marrying Mary Denning in 1813 ,, hence the name Denning I assume.

I have not done a lot of research on this for a while but hope to get back into it this year.

Does any of this tie in with your Challis family ?

Hello,
Yes,  Richard Challis 1762 married Mary Denning (Donning on some sites) 1813. He is brother to my 4 greats grandfather, Robert Challis 1758 who married 1. Nancy Dyer 1785: 2 Mary Phillips 1792 from whom I am descended. I have another 2 from that generation-: William 1760, married Betty Osman in 1785: Mary 1755 married William Haindam in 1778. I have not yet followed down these lines or yours yet. I have managed 2 further generation back but I cannot guarantee these. Happy to tell you for you to check!
Robert Challis's son, William, left Lympstone and married Mary Ann Lane in 1819 (also from Lympstone) in Middlesex where they stayed. I must say I love doing it but only been looking for about a year.
