Rowantree Cottage, Townend Road?
« on: Saturday 06 December 14 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

On the 1891 census I have the McRae family living at Rowantree Cottage, Townend Road, Dumbarton.

I can't find any other record of Rowantree Cottage existing, can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Townend was was and still is lined with dwellings although most have been replaced.  In this time frame all were known by their names.  But there are no town maps which show this information in detail.  Even the property valuations do not list a Rowantree in 1895.  The only ones who may have this information is the Dumbarton Library who helped me identify couple of dwellings in town during this same period.

However, that being said it was the Kennedy family at Rowantree entry #225 and the McRae's at #226 Townend Road which on the original 1891 Census is two down or up because of an empty dwelling in between.  But, by 1895 they were living on High St.
