Claire,
Your second link was also very useful. It has yielded 3 NEWMAN wills which mention some 23 family members whom I'm now trying to sort out.
Thanks again.

Claire,

Thanks to your leads, I've now managed to push my roots back to Thomas NEWMAN who must have been born around 1596, but I can find no marriage or baptism for him.
Interestingly, amongst the 23 family members I mentioned last time, no fewer than 4 of them were baptised 'Alice', so Alice NEWMAN must have been either very important or very popular.

Regards

George

Hi George
Carrying on from my offer on the Hawkesbury thread!

Thomas Newman baptised 01/07/1689 - son of Richard
Margaret Newman baptised 31/10/1685 - daughter of Richard
Margaret Newman baptised 30/10/1691 - daughter of Richard

A* has two Annes being baptised at Prestbury, one in 1678 and given as the daughter of Will Newman, the other in 1681, the daughter of Richard, but I cannot find her on the image.

There's also an Elizabeth Newman daughter of Richard baptised at Prestbury 29/08/1679

Wiltshire: Mathews
Carmarthen: Thomas, Lewis
Australia: Mary Lewis, transportee, married Henry Brown - what happened to her?

Lisa,

Thanks for both your replies.

In reverse order: I've been looking for a Thomas NEWMAN, b c1596, but without success. I think your man in 1598 is almost certainly the one I want - is there a record of his father please?
The Thomas of 1644 would appear to be a son of Richard NEWMAN & Anne PERRIN - could you confirm, please?

I'd already got Margaret NEWMAN of 1691, but both Margaret of 1685 and Thomas of 1689 are new to me.

My 2 big gaps are Richard NEWMAN who must have been born c1641, I believe to Richard NEWMAN & Anne PERRIN, and I believe that he married c1670 but I don't know to whom.

Any help you can offer in regards to the above will be much appreciated, and I am most grateful for what you've done so far.

Regards

George

Hi George
This will be in several posts because my iPad doesn't seem to like me switching from the posting screen of rootschat to A* and vice versa!

Thomas Newman baptised 7th October 1598 in Stone, Gloucestershire - father Thomas Newman

And Thomas Newman baptised 17th May 1644 in Prestbury - son of Richard Newman

Also a Richard Newman baptised 21st May1648 in Prestbury, son of Richard Newman

Still checking for a marriage for circa 1641 Richard.
