Searching for lost relatives
« on: Sunday 04 January 15 20:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi One & All
I am after some help and assistance please, so thought I’d come here. Never entered requirements on here before so I don’t know what my luck is to be...
Back in the 1950’s a Great Uncle emigrated from England to Canada. Whether he was alone or whether he travelled with a friend / partner I don’t know. I cannot find a marriage certificate and come to that can neither find a birth certificate for Uncle.

Great Uncle “John (William)?? Moore (may possibly have been Catholic)
Great Aunt “Lil” no other information - said to be of German decent.

Whether they were married when he went I don’t know but on www.findmypast.co.uk, Passenger Lists in Travel & migration, I have found the following: -

Sailed from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada on the 11 October 1951. Ship name (Steam Ship) SS Franconia (Cunard White Star Limited)
Name / Age & Address given at time of sailing: -
John Moore 46years (making birth year 1905) / Lilian Moore 35years (making birth year 1912)
Address 44 Liverpool Road, Walworth, London
Trades declared: Engineer & House Wife
Contract Ticket Number: MW37418
Arrived in Quebec 18 October 1951

The above may just be by luck that a John Moore, with a Lilian, who happened to be the correct age against 1911 Census and travelled to Quebec. The only thing on the form under Country of last Permanent Residence they have declared “Other Parts of the British Empire”, which confuses me.

I am told by information given to me some years that they started in Quebec and eventually ended up in Toronto. The last known main address where they spent time was: -

Virginia Avenue, East York, Toronto 6, Ontario
(I wrote to the above address last week so do wait a reply)

I have searched various web sites giving the writing on grave stones but can find nothing.

Look forward to any possible reply no matter how small

Kind Regards

The only thing on the form under Country of last Permanent Residence they have declared “Other Parts of the British Empire”, which confuses me.

“Other Parts of the British Empire” means countries like Canada, Australia, India, etc that were considered to be a part of the British Empire. Some countries were still colonies while others were independent but chose to remain part of the British Empire.

Thank you very much for your answer.
Is that the one & only John Moore married to Violet in Toronto back in the time that it was said he lived in Toronto.
I am beginning to wonder whether he had 2 names.

Any other information would be great

Please don't laugh but.............................

Is it my imagination that there are similarities between this query & another similar topic ???http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=708696.45

I don't have time for now to check through it all but things do seem a wee bit strange. No harm in checking out I suppose ::)

P.S. I have also posted a link on the other page to here :P

Hi Tom,

As said, no time to go through all facts for now but similarities:

Name John
Disappeared 1950's
Questioning of his surname

Possibly more..............was just a thought meanwhile ???
