I just received John Skelsey senior's will and it turns out that deaf John Henry was treated differently from his siblings. They were each to receive a share of their father's fortune upon the death of their mother: in the case of the two who had died, that share would be divided amongst their offspring at maturity. I understand that each share would be more than the value of an £80 annuity.

I expect the thinking was that the siblings were all married with children, and that John Henry was not, and being in his fifties was not expected to - though I know that deaf people did get married, often to other deaf people.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this request.  Sadly my tutors limited my research to East Yorkshire, however I did find all of your comments very interesting.   I was given a good mark and passed my Post Grad diploma.

For those who are interested an article based on my research is due to be published by Your Family Tree magazine around about March next year.

Once again thank you for your support.

Hi Anne

I have just received my copy of Deaf History Journal, is it your article that's in there too? It makes an interesting read, thank you!

Hi Yorks-girl - sorry I did not get a notification about your message.

Yes the article is part of my dissertation, I am glad you found it interesting.

The article covering the other aspects I researched has now been published in the newly named Your Family History magazine that is on sale now.

My article on the early Victorian 'deaf and dumb' is in the March Issue of Your Family History magazine.
