See the brown icon on the rhs 'Quote'; click on it and you get this formatting as in my reply.

Alternatively, when composing something more complex, click on the 'text balloon' in the list of icons at the top of the reply box ( ) and paste your text in twixt the supplied quote][/quote commands   ...

Its only supposed to display the text balloon as a small gif - to simply illustrate it, so you can identify it in the list of icons at the top of your reply ... (just above the Smilie faces )

I clicked on it, so I could do this ...

Hi Jeff,

Here is a link which will show you what actions the buttons have on RootsChat

http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting.php

There are a few different ways of quoting but I copy and paste text, then highlight the text finally clicking on the quote button.

Sarah :)

The trick is to leave your quoted text between the "{quote author= . . . . .}" and the "{/quote}".

And if you don't want to repeat a whole long post, you can carefully - once it's in the reply box - delete what you don't want.  But remember to keep quote author at the beginning and quote at the end.

Also, if you only want to quote a few words, you can select, copy & paste like you do in any document in Word, or any of the other 'word processing' programs you may be using.
