Inquest report in Chipping Norton newspaper 1941
« on: Tuesday 20 January 15 19:37 GMT (UK) »
hello

Does anyone have access to the newspaper for Chipping Norton in December 1941?

I am looking for any report on an inquest that was opened on 2nd Dec and adjourned to 12th Dec 1941 into the accident which caused the death of my uncle, James William SMITH. He was a despatch Rider and was knocked off his motorbike by an army lorry he was escorting on 1st Dec 1941. This occurred on the road from Oxford to Stratford about 3mls east of Chipping Norton.

Does the local library hold the papers and will they lookup if requested?

Thanks

Hi
Is this request your first time of asking, because if it is then someone else was searching the same info last year or maybe before that - but you can search for that on here if it is not yourself.

If this is the first time of your asking then I suggest you contact
Oxfordshire Record Office, St Luke's Church, Temple Road, Cowley, Oxford, OX4 2HT
     Telephone    (01865) 398200
     E-Mail    archives@oxfordshire.gov.uk

and ask them where to look in Oxfordshire - if the record/s exist they ought to know where to find them or it.

Regards

Thank you NDRFT, I was not me enquiring before (well at least I don't remember doing so!!) but another distant cousin has also been researching over the years so maybe him. I did a quick search but couldn't find anything else on here.

I have sent an email to the Records Office so wait in anticipation.

Many thanks
