Graveyard near Bedlinog - Edward William Rees died 1905
« on: Tuesday 20 January 15 22:04 GMT (UK) »
Edward William Rees died aged 80 on 26 June 1905 in Bedlinog.  His wife Ellen/Eleanor outlived him and I do not have a date for her death.

I thought that they might have been buried at Graigfargoed cemetry because more recently departed family members were buried there - but I have read on Merthyr Tydfil council's website that that cemetry opened in 1924 so he/they can't be there.

I'd be very grateful if some kind soul would help me locate them.  I have wondered whether they would have been buried at Gelligaer parish church because I remember a story from my childhood that someone in the family was buried there.  I have been to the churchyard and could not find a grave with their names.

Many thanks

There are a couple of options apart from Gelligaer. There's Beechgrove cemetery in Treharris which opened in 1888 or Pentwyn Cemetery up over the mountain by Fochrhiw - I certainly know Bedlinog families with relatives buried there. There was a small graveyard in Quakers Yard (well overgrown now) the one up above Fiddlers Elbow roundabout or possibly Nelson. there do appear to have been some burials in the yard of at least one of the village chapels as well

Edward William Rees was buried in Rhymney on the 1 June 1905 aged 80 years, home address 11 Lower High St, Bedlinog, on the entry it doesn't say which church so I assume it was the main Parish Church St David's, best wishes Rowley

Thank you so very much for finding this for me.  I don't suppose his wife Eleanor/Elinor/Ellen Rees is listed in whatever records you are using.  I would have thought she would be buried near/with him.  Again - many thanks.
