Carrodus

Hi,

I'm trying to research the Carrodus family from Keighley in Yorkshire.

I know my husband's 3rd Great Grandfather Henry Cockcroft (b. 1825, Wadsworth, Yorkshire) married a Sarah Maria Carrodus (b. 1827, Keighley, Yorkshire) in July 1849, but I'm struggling to find concrete evidence of her parents. I *think* they were John Carrodus and Elizabeth Bortoft but if anyone has any more or better information I'd really appreciate it.

What was father John's occupation on the marriage cert and who were witnesses?

There is a tree on A*****y which gives parents as John/Elizabeth - source non conformist baptism reg

That register gives Sarah maria's d.o.b. as 17 Nov 1827 d.o. baptism 14 Feb 1828 Kieghly Parents John /Elizabeth

There is another baptism in Kieghley of Sarah Maria  on 29 FEb 1828 (d.o.b. not given) address Denbigh Square parents John /Isabella father's occ Comber
This Sarah maria can be found in 1841 but I cannot find the "other" one

Thank you for your reply. I've just found Elizabeth Bortoft under her 2nd married name of Thornton living with Henry and Sarah Maria on the 1871 census listed as Mother in Law, so I'm hoping that's a pretty good nod that I'm going in the right direction!

I haven't got any certificates yet, but I think I shall order this one shortly to confirm. Desperate to confirm Sarah Maria's parents, as there's a suggestion the family is related to the violinist John Tiplady Carrodus and I'd love to be able to confirm or deny it!
