English Wills after 1858
« on: Monday 26 January 15 08:11 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone purchased any wills from the English Wills site after 1858? I would like to purchse several. I have the dates of death and dates of probate. I was just reading Peter Calvers lostcousins news letter, and some people have lost their money if they didn't have a folio number. The wills I am interested in don't have a folio number, so I am a bit confused. I was wondering if anyone has used this site, and what their experience was.

Regards
Lorayne

There is a fairly comprehensive topic here on the subject

Folio numbers refer to Grants probated at London between 1858 and 1930. They appear as handwritten numbers next to the calendar entries.

Dear Dawn
Thanks for your reply
I got the information for the probates I am interested in on ancestry calender. There is no folio number, and even on the calender on the Probate site itself  there is no folio number.
Has anyone downloaded anything successfully?
I just want to be sure, before I send money.
I am in Australia, and this will be great for me if it works. All mine are after 1858 and before 1966. Previously I had to pay someone to get them for me.

Regards
Lorayne

Hi Lorayne

If you post the name and date of death we can double check for you for reassurance.

You don't actually 'download' anything from the site.

You order and pay for the probates online and then shortly after you should get an email to tell you the documents are ready.

You then log back into your account and there should be a tab at the top of your for you to access your owloads.

Please make sure you print, download and save them to your computer as there are deleted after 31 days.

Hi Lorayne

Use Ancestry to locate the wills initially then go to the Probate site and look up the wills on that site. If there is a Folio number it is on the Calendars on the Probate website not on Ancestrys version.
