What Happened To The Skinner's?
« on: Tuesday 27 January 15 18:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Another one of my rellies seems to have gone missing!

This time its a 3x great aunt Emily Hersey (1867-?) born in Carshalton, whom I have on both the 1871 & 1881 censuses. She married Henry Skinner on 22nd August 1886 in Penge, Surrey. According to the familysearch marriage record that I have, it gives Emily's age as 20 (she was in fact 19) & the groom Henry as age 22. After the marriage, I can find nothing further for them.

I should just point out that Emily appears in the birth index records twice in the June qtr of 1867. Once as Emily & again as Emma! She was baptised in Carshalton on 4th December 1868 as Emma!

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

Hi JJen,

No I hadn't discounted it, I hadn't even seen it to be honest! How did I miss that!

I would say that that is more likely than not her.

Many thanks.

Kind regards

Hi Louisa Maud,

Many thanks indeed for that. I had wondered if Emily/Emma's death was perhaps childbirth based.

They had only been married for between 5 to 7 months when she died, but if she had been 2-3 months pregnant at the time of the marriage, then not impossible. (Certainly wouldn't be the first time that that's been the case in my family tree! ;D)

Thanks again.

Kind regards

Sadly it might be a possibility, the only way you may know for sure is to purchase the death cert for Emily aged 19

Hi Louisa Maud,

I agree with you that the only way to find out for sure is to purchase Emily's death cert. Another one to add to the growing list of certs to buy when I can afford to do so.

Many thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated.

Kind regards

David

You might be able to find out where she is buried

Have you found her husband on following census?

Hi Louisa Maud,

No I couldn't find her husband Henry either. The problem is that all I know about Henry is he was born 1863/64 (age on marriage as 22 in 1886) but not where.

Kind regards

David
