Exning Workhouse Records?
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 11:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello im trying to find more information on Alfred Swan age 9 and Arthur Swan age 11 on 1891 Exning Workhouse Census. I live in Middlesbrough so it is impossible for me to come down to look through records, do you know if there is anything I could try online? Im particularly interested in what happened to their mother/father as there seem to be a few Swan/Swann children there, some of which were with their mother and father Mary and Charles on 1871 living in Ousden

Thanks in advance for your help

Alfred Swan age 9 and Arthur Swan age 11 on 1891 Exning

Are they definitely on the 1891 as I can't find any entry?

Where were they both born?

Hiya, thanks for taking the time to look.
On ancestry.co.uk I found Charles (born 1878 Dalham) living at Exning Workhouse on 1891 census page 4, on page 5 (I think) are Arthur and Albert. Surname Swan with one 'n' this time.

Found them using the details you gave for Charles.  Ancestry have Arthur & Alfred indexed as Iwan which is why I couldn't find them under Swan ::)

All 3 boys are shown as b Dalham

The county is shown as Cambridge - not Suffolk as I think it's one of those "on the border" things

Yeh I've seen that 1881 census thanks. What I'm desperate to know is did Mary die or something to bring Charles to the North East and his kids to go in the workhouse? Thanks for your help much, appreciate it. :-)

Which Charles - junior or senior?

Have you checked freebmd for a death for Mary?  www.freebmd.org.uk
