Lost 'Young' Family from Tipperary
« on: Monday 02 February 15 07:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

Relatives of mine, David Young and Margaret Young (nee Meara) lived at Kyleomadaun in Finnoe, Borrisokane, near Nenagh, North Tipperary, Ireland. They presumably had several children before parish registers began, but their recorded family begins in 1828 with Simon, who was born there. They moved West to Monsea Parish and had David there in 1837, followed by Penelope in 1840 and William in 1842. 1847's baptism of James found them back in Borrisokane, where they remained for Richard's baptism in 1848.

And then...nothing. There are no feasible death records for any of the family, no marriage records...nothing!

'Penelope Young' in particular should be easy to locate as the name combination is quite unusual in Ireland at the time. But again, I've not been able to.

There has been a suggestion that David's brother, another Simon Young, may have emigrated to Canada, but I'm not sure how to find out whether this line made it out there, too.

Can anyone help, or suggest some archives where I can look in order to find out where the family have gone?

Hi Stephen,
David Young was paying his dues in Ballygibbon in 1824-1825.
This is in the Parish of Monsea, the area you mentioned.
Margaret nee Meara, may be related to me as my Great Grandfather was from there and he was Michael Meara. From what I gather they moved from Templemore/Toomevara to Monsea Parish around the 1830's.
This bit I have yet to do.
I don't know where you are, but this area if north of Nenagh, (where I was born)
If you find Nenagh then Puckane on the map it's just past there.
Simon Young was in Lower Kilianmadawn Finnoe in 1826.
There is also  a John Young with his wife Mary Hogan, doesn't say his parents names, says Borrisokane, which everyone would say the nearest town, in 1841 going to Australia. Her father was Darby (Jeremiah)Hogan I know he was from Terryglass, he is also related to me.
So John, Simon and David must be brothers.
In Griffiths Valuation there is a Simon Young in Glenkeen, this is Thurles, South Tipperary, I have seen his family they had been in that area from the 1820's.
I have printed off your info. and I will get back to you.

Maggsie,

Thanks for the info. You say David Young was "paying his due" in Ballygibbon. You mean the Tithe returns?

The John Young thing is verrrry interesting. John went to Australia in 1841? What information is there on this? A migration/shipping record? Is there any info on him once he went to Australia? i.e. does his death record feature his parents' names (as many Aussie records do)?

  Best regards,

    Stephen

Thanks!

Frustrating that John's parents are merely "both dead". I have the marriage of John and Mary Hogan, but was just wondering what happened to them after they went to Australia. I know some states record the names of the parents when they die. I was wondering if this was done for either John or Mary. I'm trying to connect them to my own great, great grandmother, Ellen Young who was "of Finnoe" which is the neighbouring townland to Borrisokane (home of John Young) and also Kylemadaun (home of David and Simon Young, as mentioned in my earlier post). I really want to tie the four together...somehow!

Hi,
In a tree in Ancestry I found this.....
John Young was born in 1803 in Tipperary, Ireland. He married Mary Anne Hogan in 1831 in Terryglass, Tipperary, Ireland. They had one child during their marriage. He died on November 8, 1891, in Boorowa, New South Wales, having lived a long life of 88 years.

Kylemadaun and Finnoe are near each other, look for Borrisokane at the cross roads left is Finnoe leading onto Kylemadaun.
It depends on the records you are looking at, I know this area as Carney Commons.
