Thank you nanny jan  ;D  I didn't want OP wasting their money as I know some have been disappointed with what they have received since the wills site went live.

As for the indexes I thought I was missing something  ::)

It could be that he did not die in England or Wales ie died whilst on holiday abroad.
Quite possible.

Have you checked the local papers for where he lived to see if there is a notice in one?
I don't have access to recent Manchester newspapers.

(He is not on the GRO indexes on Ancestry either)
So it's not a blip in The Genealogist. That's helpful.

A grant does not show where a person died.

The wording on a grant is

In the High Court of Justice
The District Probate Registry at XXX

Be it known that (eg) John Albert Smith
of 1 The Close, Anytown, Countyshire
died on the 1st day of January 2001
Domiciled in England & Wales (then INTESTATE if there is no will)

And further wording as to who the executor (will) or personal representative (no will) is

Don't worry Nanny Jan, I wish the grant did tell you where people died.

I've come across scenarios like this before where there is a grant but no obvious death cert.

A death abroad is usually the answer or a later death registration because the coroner was involved, so the death could be registered 2 or 3 years later (sometimes more) but the cert will show the actual date of death.

might give a clue: if you search on "George Moug" AND Manchester, you get a few hits...looks like there's more paid-for info on DueDil...
